About Me
A brief biography…
I was born in Oldham, Lancashire and went to Oldham College where I got an A in English Language/Literature. From there I attended Plater College in Oxford and obtained a Legal Studies Diploma. I went back to my first love, English and at the University of Central Lancashire in Preston I majored in English with a BA (Hons) Degree in English Literature with Law.
My first experience of website design and content was when I designed my own site using Dreamweaver on depression in pregnancy in 2001. From that experience I also helped to set up, edit and maintain a Netmums site for Preston. I researched and wrote the content, designed newsletter templates and wrote press releases for local newspapers for not only my own site but others nationwide. I also became the primary contact between other local site editors and the media.
For two years after that I travelled to France and took up a post teaching English as a foreign language. I now speak conversational French which I hope to improve. I am currently studying for a French GCSE. Upon my return to England I took up a post working with children with special needs and/or behavioural problems. However I badly wanted to get back into writing and saw my chance when I spotted a Gumtree ad asking for a website editor in July 2009.
I am now a professional freelance writer with experience of working with various content management systems such as Wordpress and Dreamweaver. I have full knowledge of SEO and use Google Analytics and Adwords to boost my clients’ web content.
So far my experience has been limited to the worldwide web. However, within this field my writing has been varied. I write the site content for Embrace Australia - a migration and travel site - as well as news stories that are around 300-500 words and longer features that are up to 2,000 words. I have also written all the content for Embrace Canada and New Zealand which are yet to be online.
I have also written small articles of around 400 words for Just Kids - a site on children and parenting and The Fizz which focuses on weddings.
For each of these sites I upload all the articles personally, including all links and images. I can utilise various image manipulation software including GIMP, Picasa and Photoshop. I can also use tracking links from affiliate companies and have basic knowledge of html.
My creative flair is largely confined to personal work now, you can read one of my poems The Girl With Stars in her Eyes which was inspired by something my daughter said. I also write witty one-liners within the confines of 140 characters for a David Tennant Spoof on Twitter which raises money for Comic Relief.
I am available for all other freelance/contract work and my rates are reasonable and flexible. What you will gain in return is a highly efficient, reliable writer who can write to a specific direction or who is willing to contribute her own ideas for inspired articles that are easy to read, interesting and relevant.
